May I introduce: IZMP! Welcome to the Language Lab.

TALK:
What if an Integration Center were to sonicate „foreign“ plants with language and behavioral courses? What if integration values were defined by resistance measurements? And what if those resistance values determined the right to stay? IZMP, the Integration Center for Migrated Plants, was founded in 2017 by Lena Violetta Leitner. In its lab „exotic“ and invasive alien plants are sonicated with language courses, and their integration ability is assessed by resistance measurements. Often definitions between humans and nature become interchangeable. How do we define what is „natural“ or what is „alien“?

SPEAKER:
Lena Violetta Leitner’s works are mostly created in close exchange with people from different fields. She is part of Kollektiv OutSight and DTAFA (Danube Transformation Agency for Agency). In 2017 she graduated from the University of Applied Arts Vienna with the foundation of the “Integration Center for Migrated Plants” (IZMP). Since then, she has been fascinated by plants and their socio-political dimension – addressing the connections between science, language and society with irony, humor and speculative fabulation. In 2022 she was awarded the BMKÖS Start Grant for media art.https://lenaviolettaleitner.com/
