Im ersten subnetAIR in diesem Jahr werden sich Silvia Rosani und Tom Jacques mit dem Körper und dem Klang von Musikinstrumenten auseinandersetzen. In ihrem Projekt werden die beiden Künstler ein Musikinstrument anfertigen und dieses über seinen eigenen Körper hinaus weiterentwickeln, um es daraufhin auf seine akustischen und räumlichen Klangeigenschaften zu erforschen.
Silvia Rosani studierte Komposition in Italien und am Mozarteum Salzburg und promovierte an der Goldsmiths Universität in London. Darüber hinaus machte sie einen Abschluss in Elektrotechnik. Rosani arbeitet mit Klanganalysesoftwares und Live Elektronik. Ihre Kompositionen werden international von Ensembles wie den Neuen Vokalsolisten, ÖENM, Ensemble Platypus und United Instruments of Lucilin aufgeführt. Einige bekannte Spielstätten, in denen ihre Musik schon performt wurden, sind Salzburg, die Venice Biennale, MATA (New York), Music Current (Dublin), ECLAT (Stuttgart), Teatro de la Zarzuela (Madrid) und das Rhialto Theater (Limassol). Im September 2017 arbeitete Silvia Rosani innerhalb der Residency New Musik/ Québec -UK (hcmf) Exchange mit dem In Extensio Ensemble in Montréal und war Rezipient der IMRO/Music Current Kommission. Ihr Projekt White Masks wurde durch das Instute of Musical Research (IMR) mit dem Public Engagement Grant ausgezeichnet und wird durch den Goldsmiths Annual Fund finanziert. In den nächsten Monaten wird das Projekt bei den Dias de la Musica Electroacustica (DME) und im Atelierfrankfurt performt. Silvia Rosani ist momentan Kompositionsdozentin an der Cardiff Universität (School of Music) und Lehrbeauftragte an der Goldsmiths Universität in London.

Tom Jacques ist Multi-Instrumentalist und Klangkünstler. Seine Arbeiten inkludieren Komposition, Improvisation, Performance und sound device design und sind vor allem in der Contemporary Music, Jazz und Percussion verortet. In den letzten 5 Jahren hat er mit zahlreichen Künstlern und Technikern zusammengearbeitet, um seine eigenen Musikinstrumente und Sound Installationen zu entwickeln. Tom Jacques sticht aus der neuen Künstlergeneration in Quebec heraus. Viele seiner persönlichen Arbeiten und Musikensembles sind von dem Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Québec und der Canada Council for the Arts anerkannt und gefördert worden. Er ist Rezipient des Bas-Saint-Laurent Best Newcomer Award (2017) und darüber hinaus Leiter des Percussion Trios Bascaille, Kodirektor des Jazz Quartetts Manta und ein Mitglied der GGRIL, der „Großen regionalen und freien Improvisationsgruppe“. Als Musiker, Komponist und Auftragnehmer kollaboriert Jacques oft mit Künstlern aller Sparten und ist stark in der kulturellen Gemeinschaft integriert. Im Moment ist er Präsident des Arte Tacto und Direktor der Culture du Bas-Saint-Laurent und half in der Vergangenheit das Pilotprojekt Garage à musique de la Haute-Gaspésie mit aufzubauen, dass von Montréals GAM inspiriert wurde. GAM nutzt Musik, um jungen Menschen die negativen Aspekte ihrer zum Teil sehr rauen Lebensbedingungen zu erleichtern. Die GAM Leistungen sind frei nutzbar.

In their promising subnetAIR project Silvia Rosani and Tom Jacques will build and extend a musical instrument beyond its own body and furthermore explore its sonic and spatial sound properties.
Silvia Rosani studied composition in Italy, at Mozarteum Universität in Salzburg and completed a PhD at Goldsmiths, University of London. She also completed a degree in electronics and works with software for sound analysis and live electronics. Silvia‘s music is performed internationally by ensembles such as Neue Vocalsolisten, ÖENM, Ensemble Platypus and United Instruments of Lucilin. Some of the venues and festivals in which her music was performed are Salzburg and Venice Biennale, MATA (NY), Music Current (Dublin), ECLAT (Stuttgart), Teatro de la Zarzuela (Madrid) and Rhialto Theater (Limassol). In September 2017, Silvia worked with ensemble In Extensio in Montréal thanks to the Residency New Music / Québec – UK (hcmf) Exchange and was recipient of the IMRO/Music Current commission. Silvia‘s project White Masks was awarded a Public Engagement Grant by the Institute of Musical Research (IMR), the Francis Chagrin Award and was granted the support of the Goldsmiths Annual Fund. In the next few months, the project will be performed at Dias de la Musica Electroacustica (DME) and Atelierfrankfurt. Silvia is currently Lecturer in Composition at Cardiff University School of Music and Associate Lecturer at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Tom Jacques is a multi-instrumentalist and sound artist. His work evolves between composition, improvisation, performance and sound device design, mainly in contemporary music, jazz, and percussion. For the last 5 years, he has been working with various artists and technicians in order to make his own musical instruments and sound installations. Tom Jacques stands out among Quebec’s new breed of creative artists. Many of his personal projects and musical ensembles have been acknowledged and supported by the Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts. He is the recipient of the Bas-Saint-Laurent Best Newcomer Award (2017). Tom is the Artistic Director of the percussion trio Bascaille, a co-artistic director of the jazz quartet Manta, and a member of the GGRIL (Grand Groupe Régional d’Improvisation LIbre, which means “large regional free improvisation group”. He regularly collaborates with artists of all stripes as a musician, composer, and consultant. This young artist is strongly involved in the cultural community. Currently president of Arte Tracto and director of Culture du Bas-Saint-Laurent, he helped set up Garage à musique de la Haute-Gaspésie, a pilot project inspired by Montréal’s GAM, which uses music to help young people lessen the negative impacts of their harsh living conditions. The GAM’s services are free.
